Om jobbet

The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden is a partnership of 13 European countries with the mission to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source.
Working with us means being part of a challenging and exciting work environment, at a stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.

About the position
We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Cryogenics group in the Accelerator division.

The Cryogenics group is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of almost all cryogenic systems at ESS. These systems are now in operation or the final stages of commissioning.
As a Cryogenics Group summer worker your main tasks will be to assist in the modeling and data analysis of the cryogenic hydrogen moderator system and its associated cryogenic refrigeration plant. This is a cutting edge cryogenic system whose behavior is still being optimized. Your efforts will help in this process and will likely lead to scientific publications. In addition, during your time at ESS, you will have the opportunity to learn about cryogenic engineering and its application to ESS.

About you
A suitable background for this position would be:

Undergraduate or graduate student in physics or engineering with an understanding of heat transfer, fluid transfer, thermodynamics and computer modeling. Experience in cryogenics is not required.
Good written and oral communication skills in English
Minimum age 18 years.

We believe that you enjoy communicating and collaborating with a variety of people in an international environment. You are good at taking initiative and not afraid to ask questions.

Duration and location
This is a summer work position of 12 weeks.
Planned start date is June 7, 2026 or per agreement.

Your workplace is on-site at ESS in Lund, Sweden.
